I am looking for any help with plating questions on a main connecting rod bearing. The base material is BrS-30 GOST (Russian Alloy). Is it acceptable to plate over this material with copper and then lead? |

Need more details. Guessing you're referring to the bearing shell itself? What engine application? |

My second degree is in materials technology and I really enjoyed metallurgy. I would contact someone in the classic car engine renovation business and ask them about casting Babbitt metal. (these white metal bearings have to be cast then scraped in) I don't have it handy, but I think there is a mention of how they recast bearings in a twenties aircraft engine in the DH9 restoration book I mentioned in the book forum page. |
