Hi all,
Semi frequent member, I just reconnected for another year.

We are getting so much closer to our goal of a running our 2800. I am now researching spark plugs . I find it curious lack of information around concerning what plugs of the time were used. I see some types on eBay that we can afford to purchase, but need to confirm what type of plug went with what type engines.

We are thinking of reinvigorating a - 77, so can anyone clue me in on what type of plugs I would need to get for that? If anyone can point me towards the correct reference materials I would also be very grateful.

We find that the R-2800-77 was used in the following aircraft:
Northrop F-61C, XP-61D; Republic P-47K, Convair T-29A, Chase C-123B
If you can find manuals for any of these aircraft they should specify appropriate spark plugs.

From https://rgl.faa.gov/ Type Certificate Data Sheets, searching for
Number 5E-8, we find that the R-2800-77 is similar to the -57, but has double acting propeller provisions and an optional water injection system.
Scrolling down to Note 11, we find a collection of AC, Autolite, BG and Champion spark plugs that are approved for all R-2800 military engines.

Looked it up and it is very helpful. A tip from a tool seller was also to look in the P & W Maintenance manuals rather than the Overhaul manuals which are my gospel.
