| In RRHT book RR and the Mustang it is mentioned a that a Merlin was modified to run at +23 boost with reduced compression ratio on 100/130 fuel. It then listst the performance improvements it gave for the aircraft (vs. standard Merlin at +18 boost) but not the power developed:( So, how much power at those settings? |

Just before the Mustang was fitted with the 5.5 C/R Merlin, an RM10SM was thus modified at Derby and ran on the testbed. Its performance was as follows:
Combat: 3000 rpm +23 lb boost
MS gear - 1835 BHP at 1500 ft.
FS gear - 1690 BHP at 12,500 ft.
Above are static heights.

| Thanks! Thus it is that the modified Merlin put out 100+ hp over the standard Mk. 66 with the same fuel. Not bad. |
