I bought a 1/5 scale RR Derwent at auction in England it being advertised as a working model and indeed the model tail-pipe blueing showed subjection to high temp. However this model is not capable of achieving self-sustained running. It is well made and complete apart from the compressor which was a completely inadequate, even crude, attempt. I have spent a lot of time and not small money making improvements to no avail. The re-engineered compressor achieving only a few inches water gauge.
I had given up and resolved to sell the engine with a more honest description and suffer the loss. However recently I came across this 2007 link http://www.enginehistory.org/model_engines.shtml of a near identical model to mine by AEHS member Brain Bell which he credibly describes as capable of running.
I was hoping to be able to contact Brian Bell for guidance but, regretably, cannot find him in the member list. Does anyone know if Brain is still with us? If so, how to contact him? Alternatively where is his Derwent model now?
Appreciate any leads or input from any other member on how to achieve sustained running.
