It's been alluded to in other posts by quite a few people now.
You know it's gonna be a really long thread - do we want to standardise it?
eg
-splitting into real/imagined, air/liquid cooled,
-what basic data is presented (to compare),
-reason for choice of that engine.
Or shall we just wax lyrical ? |

Yes. It likely would be a long thread indeed!
Why don't we start with a paper engine design? Describe the ideal engine without all the short-comings of previous design efforts. Once we settled on what that sort of engine would look like, or at least what some of the attributes would be, we could go back, review existing engine designs and compare them. If the thread got too long we could break out into sub-categories exactly as you suggest.
So I'll kick off on the "imagined" ultimate piston aero-engine on a new thread (The Ultimate Positive Displacement Aero-Engine Design). Comments please. |
