Having changed cylinders on the R-2800 and various R-3350 engines, all poppet valve types, I became curious on how you did so on the Bristols.
True the cylinder came off similarly to the poppet engines. But the moving parts, sleeve and piston remain. The sleeve has a crank attached and its inside the crankcase. That prevents it from being pulled straight out through the cylinder hole in the crankcase. Plus, how would you disconnect it from its gear train. . The piston is in the sleeve so you can't take it off either.
So, the question is, "How do you remove the sleeve on an assembled engine?
Or, did I miss something in my reading?
