P&W piston engines produced
Most where built during WW2
The last years of Piston engine production.
2 Engines made, R-1830's in 1951
1 Engine made, R-2000 in 1959
3 Engines made, R-2800's in 1959
7 Engines made, R-2800's in 1960
The most produced engine in the early 50's was the, R-4360.
The R-1830 is the largest number of engines made, R-2800 is number 2.
The total? I would have thought it would be much higher. I feel it was a huge mistake not to continue production past 1960 on some models. Especially the R-985, R-1340, R-2000 and R-2800, since they were still at that time being used extensively. Today they are still in commercial use, daily, and not only in the US but in other countries as well. |
