And still makes me wonder about Wrights use of roller bearings for the crankshaft mains in the R-3350, and all engine manufactures choice of needle bearings for tappets, and rocker arms.

roller bearing save a lot of friction, furthermore, as I learned here, high load plain bearings were developed for flight engines during WWII, before they couldn't handle more loads than roller bearings.
