Hi!: when looking into the development of Norton motorcycle Wankel engines, I found the reference: P V Lamarque "The design of Cooling Fins for Motorcycle Engines". Report of the Automobile Report Committee, Institution of Automobile Engineers, March 1943. The paper can't be located in the SAE store, but, even when the NACA report 726, from 1939 by Biermann and Ellerbrock on cooling fins is downloadable from NASA website, I'd like knowing if the Lamarque work adds interesting information. Thanks. Merry Xmas and year 2010

I've finally realized that The Institution of Automobile Engineers was different from SAE, and that the article by Lamarque on cooling fins for motorcycle engines, that appears in the references list of the SAE paper by David W Garside on his work in rotary engines in Norton, is from the March 1943 issue of Automobile Engineers magazine. The NACA article by Biermann et al about calculation of fins for air-cooled cylinders can be accessed thru a link in the Wikipedia Sleeve Valve entry. If after reading or downloading the article you click in the back arrow of the browser, you have access to the full list of NACA articles on several subjects regarding engines and other aircraft-related old research, these articles being located in a UK server, but I suppose this was already known for many. Salut + |

Yeah, the content of this article is different from the one by Biermann in NACA, it was published in the proceedings of the Automobile Engineers' Society (London), year session's volume. |
