I just read Guyton's book while on vacation in sunny Cancun. The Vought Experimental Test Pilot told a great story about the Big Hog and the early days of the war and getting the Corsair to the troops, who needed it yesterday. The learning curve it took to get "XF" into production, the crash landings attributed to the P&W R2800's and updating to the Navy's specs and finally to operate from the flat tops. A must read for all you Corsair fans.
Next is Barrett Tillman's "Corsair", recommended reading by Mr. Guyton.
Then "The Jolly Rogers" by Tom Blackburn. |
