I got my intake pipe with the broken flange back from the welder. The old aluminum casting proved quite a challenge to weld nicely, taking 3 tries to get a usable result. I cleaned it up with a ball cutter in a tool taking as little metal off as possible, then smoothed it all out with some JB weld epoxy before painting it. A few passes with a file trued up the flange base. The repaired intake pipe and cylinder are back home on the crankcase, and the valve lash properly set on all valves. Good compression detected in all cylinders. Next activity is to clean and paint the rocker covers, cut 4 new gaskets for them, and close up the rocker boxes for good. After that comes the carb.......... |
