The early Caravelle Avons were from the RA.28 family, same as installed in the Hunter 6 onward - Mks 203 and 207, and in the Valiant bomber, Mks 204 and 205. There was no Avon Mk.10.

The RA.28 in the Caravelle was the Mk.512, the basic differences between it and the military RA.28s were a modified air intake and an auxiliary gearbox drive that had provison for fitting to port or starboard installations. Thrust rating were a shade higher for the Caravelle. The later Caravelles had the RA.29 variant that had a 16-stage compressor and a 3-stage turbine (instead of 15-stage and 2-stage) - 400lb more thrust. Engine marks were 522, 526 and 527. The final RA.29 engines for the Caravelle had an 'O' stage added to the front of the compressor, and as such were marks 530, 531, 532 and 533. These had an extra 2200 lb of thrust.
