Bought a copy yesterday at the RRHT AGM.
As the introduction states, it is laid out to list and describe as many engines and other products as possible. It also says there is reason to believe that the list is not complete but reflects the surviving information.
Each product or major engine variant is given a page, typically with a photo/illustration or two and a table of technical data together with brief history of the product with its application and significance.
Nearly 300 pages (softback 215x275x12mm) b&w illustrated;
p1-42 piston aero engine,
43-111 turboprop/turoshaft/propfan engines,
113-146 turbojet/turbfan engines,
147-156 ramjets/rockets,
157-177 automotive/industrial engines,
179-199 development/demonstrator engines,
201-227 concept engines,
229-267 other products (transmissions,blowers,clutches etc),
269-291 references/bibliography etc.
Because of the 'catalogue' format the space for each product does not reflect its importance but it does mean that a good deal of unusual but very interesting stuff is included that would otherwise be missing. A good/high technical content which looks bang up to date (secrecy allowing !)
Can't speak for anyone else but I'm certainly pleased I bought it. |
