The Allison V-12 engine features an unusual type of big end journal bearing. This bearing is double-sided. On the inner surface it bears against the crankshaft big end journal, while on its outside surface it allows the blade rod to articulate. I am interested I knowing if anyone is currently manufacturing these bearings. I imagine there must be a manufacturer supplying them as there are still quite a few Allisons about (and being rebuilt and serviced). Does anyone have a name and contact details?

Overhauling old WWII engines is very different from, say, a small block Chevy. Nothing, and I mean nothing is pitched. Bearings are refurbished by stripping the lead plating and replating to very exacting specs. Even a high time engine rarely wears though to the silver so it's a well established process to replate them. This applies to all the large recips.

We use Paul's Rod & Babbit (816-587-4747) to re-line bearing shells, but you will need to supply all specifications and tollerances. They are very creative in their tooling usage. As in any non-factory babbit work, you will need to take much care and patience (read 'finesse') during fitment/assembly.
