Jerry,
I think the visibility aspect would not be much of a problem as the height of the cylinder banks would not be as great as an OHC 4-stroke such as a Merlin or Griffon.
Having said that, the ma ...

The aim of direct injection in two-strokes AFAIK is to reduce the THC emissions; by waiting until the exhaust port is closed very little is blown out the exhaust port.
With four strokes the advantage ...

There is also more flexibility with air cooling in aviation installations, as the velocity of the air is much higher than in an automotive situation - which may be a factor in the near universal adopt ...

Was that a kind of early multipoint fuel injection?
i.e. physically staging the injection further up or down the intake tract depending on induction rate & temperature.

Or did they actually m ...

Just blowing the dust off my old sleeve valve engine idea after reading the g4g articles in TM. I couldn't see anything about sliding friction/loads ALONG the gear's axis.

So my question is this, i ...

Speaking of the "Romance of Engines", how tender would the bearing be in an 11-cylinder engine?

That's only ~65 degrees between each power stroke, not a lot of time to squeeze any oil int ...
