I know several places up here with R-2000's, R-2800's, and even few R-4360's in various states of disrepair. (we still use DC-4's and DC-6's up here...and once there were quite a few KC-97 types) ... |

I know they made both 11 and 12 cylinder versions (Alcoa had bought some of each, according to the book I was reading.) ...but I have no other info, so the additional info you provided is much apprec ... |

I suspect it was flared off as leaving it to evaporate could result in an uncontrolled burning/explosion if anything ignited it....and in the days of oil lamps and steam powered drilling rigs, ignitio ... |

I've never seen one of those Nordberg radial diesels that I mentioned before, but I am sure everything about them was massive....you are correct that the bearing area would no doubt need to be huge to ... |

WS-110 was the weapons system for the B-70 Valkyrie...once the ws-110 system was cancelled, the XB-70's were used for research and testing only. The atomic powered aircraft used a gas turbine whose h ... |

Anybody familiar with Wright Aeronautical's venture into marine engines? I found a reference to a 1925 vintage V-12 of 600hp ...looks like it has a dry sump, cast cylinder blocks bolted to the crank ... |

I think very few of these got put into aircraft service...most of these ended up as the T-1020 which was used in tanks...our local museum has one of them on display. Although the service interval woul ... |

I did a little more searching, apparently Nordberg made a successful 11 cylinder radial, but it was for industrial purposes...They were used for running generators (in a vertical shaft arrangement) In ... |

I am wondering when ADI (anti-detonant-injection) first came into use. I have a theory that it was NOT originally used in aircraft engines. My reasoning for this is that I recently added a 1917 Fair ... |
