Jet Engine Cartridge Starts
The first video shows a cartridge start of the de Havilland Ghost engine in the de Havilland DH-112 Venom. The combustion gasses turn a turbine which is geared to the jet engine spool. The second and third videos show the Rolls-Royce Avons being cartridge-started in the Hawker Hunter and the English Electric Canberra, respectively.

NTSB Hearing on the Galloping Ghost Tragedy
This excellent panel discussion does a great job covering the minutia of information collected that determined the cause of the Galloping Ghost incident at the 2011 Reno Unlimited Air Race. The recording is long but worth all the details that are disclosed.

Yes, we know this isn’t aviation related, but the beauty of an informal Newsletter compiled by volunteers is that you can put whatever you want into it. If you can’t bring the cylinder to the machine shop, bring the machine shop to the cylinder.
