Curtiss, Lawrance and Wright Specifications, 1913 ~ 1940
The Curtiss-Wright conglomerate traces its roots to the Wright Brothers, via the Wright-Martin Corporation (which manufactured Hispano-Suiza engines under license during WW1), to the Wright Aeronautical Corporation (WAC), formed as Wright-Martin was dissolved in 1920. In 1923, the U.S. Navy essentially forced WAC to acquire the Lawrance Aero Engine Corporation, a maker of air-cooled engines. The Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Corporation engine division merged with WAC to become the Wright Aeronautical Division of Curtiss-Wright in 1930. Engines described below are representative of important experimental models, as well as significant improvements in the various production series.
