Sauer engines are built by the Sauer Motorenbau, GmbH, of Ober Olm, Germany. The firm was founded by Heinrich Sauer in 1978 to develop aircraft engines based on the VW four-cylinder, air-cooled auto engines, but with modern materials and manufacturing techniques. The range of engines can be found on the Sauer Website, which is the principal source of the data below. The only Sauer engine versions listed on the Website, as of the date of this page, are the S 1800, S 2100UL, S 2500, S 2500UL, S 2500T, S 2500ULT, and S 2700. It is not known to the compiler if the other versions below still can be obtained. The Type Certificates (TC) listed below as LBA refer to certification by the Luftfahrt Bundesamt (Federal Office of Civil Aviation), the German equivalent of the FAA in the US. Certification is to the European JAR requirements.
