Les Long of Cornelius, Oregon was a well-known light aircraft designer, builder, and homebuilt-aircraft proponent. He developed his Long engine based on the Harley-Davidson Model 74 motorcycle engine. Long used the H-D cylinders, pistons and connecting rods, but built his own crankshaft and poured his own aluminum crankcase.
